Howdy. I found this forum while googling in preparation for acquisition of a pair of Four-eyed opossums. I've always love {o}possums, and (price-wise, at least) the Four-eyes seemed like a good start for me. I've cared for Virginia Opossums before, and I just loved their personalities. Maybe after I get my feet wet caring for/breeding the Four-eyes, I'll branch out into the other species. I really like the look of the Striped, and I know there are other species out there that make even better 'pets.' I'm hoping to glean a little wisdom and education off this forum..so any advice that y'all want to share regarding my impending acquisition or anything in general will be greatly appreciated. Diet advice, housing advice, breeding advice...all would be taken and studied.
Thanks!

Well welcome. We do have a few users here with experience but possums in general are very rarely kept as a pet. In the US, keeping native Virginia opossums is illegal most places but you can import most anything non-native so we tend to have experiences with the extreme exotics that nobody has heard of.
Brushtails are a favorite of mine. I also would like to someday have some feathertails, striped possum and ringtail possum. South American has a really neat one called Caluromys Philander that I wouldnt mind finding.
In most of the world, possums are pests and/or food. It's sad to know that New Zealanders kill brushtails by the trailer load for fun and partial necessity.
Possums are neat.

Looking forward to seeing some photos.
We don't have four eyed possums here. Ringtails are my favs but brushtails come a very close second.
